competition results

There have been no qualifying competitions during the last week.  The wintry weather has not stopped play, with avid golfers gracing the fairways every day. Next week brings the mid-week and weekend Stableford bringing November to and end, with the third round of the winter league being the final competition. Another notable fixture in the diary is the annual A.G.M, which takes place at Rudding Park Hotel on the 26th November at 19.30, we hope to see as many of you there as possible.

As of the 1st March, Rudding Park launches its new annual Golf membership scheme. This exciting time sees several different membership types available to suit every player’s budget, with annual fees starting from as little as £250. Membership of the club also includes use of the Rudding Park Golf Academy facilities and the Repton Short Course which gives you added variety and excellent practice facilities. To recognise and reward the season’s golfing achievements the annual Prize Giving evening was held at Rudding Park on 7 November.  The event received tremendous support from the membership and everyone attending was rewarded with a thoroughly entertaining evening.  Guests were treated to a fabulous three course meal during which the Master of Ceremonies, Vice Captain Dave Burt, activated all present into contributing to the Captains chosen charity – the benefactors of which are the local Harrogate & District Hospital.

Captain Barry Whiteley thanked all those who contributed to the evening particularly Simon Mackaness for support to the event and allowing use of the venue, Heather Betteridge for the stunning floral displays on all the tables, Lady Vice Captain Annette Thomas for her willing help in the preparation of the event and also all those golf members present who gave support to the evening.     

The awards ceremony recognised the achievements throughout the season.  From the early Knaresborough Trophy team win, through the Summer Club Championship winners included Sue Severn (Lady Champion), Seb Crawford (Net Club Champion), Dave Brecken (Senior Club Champion) and John MacNamarra (Club Champion).  The Order Of Merit winners were Stephanie Davies (Ladies) and fittingly our Golfer of the Year for 2008 was Liam Wharldall.  Liam’s contribution to the success of the club this season has been outstanding.

With members, Messrs. Metcalfe and McGowan delivering a virtuoso performance of Frank Sinatra’s My Way (sadly, celebrity guest Simon Cowell had already left via the back door!) the evening concluded with dancing to a disco.  A fine evening was had by all.
